the greatest surf coastline in Europe.
Reefs. Points. Beach breaks. Different exposures. Different conditions.
And an absurd amount of surfing packed into a relatively short stretch of coastline.
This is our backyard.
This is where we start.
AND THEN WE HEAD NORTH.
As the week progresses, we move north through Santa Cruz and Peniche, chasing the best conditions and putting your surfing into increasingly different waves.
Beach breaks. Reefs. Faster waves. More powerful surf. Different swell angles and exposures.
One day might be a quiet peak outside Santa Cruz. The next could be Supertubos with some of the best surfers in Portugal in the water.
Every session gets filmed. We watch it back. We make adjustments. And then we go surf again.
AND THIS IS WHERE WE FINISH.
NAZARÉ.
You've seen it on a screen.
Now you're going out there.
Our final full day takes us north to Nazaré and Praia do Norte, where the underwater canyon can produce waves approaching the scale of buildings.
We'll go out by jet ski with people who understand this place and experience one of surfing's most extraordinary arenas from the water.
We're obviously not taking you there to surf a 100-foot wave.
That's not the point.
You've spent the week working on breathing, apnea, technique, ocean awareness, preparation and recovery.
Now you get to see where those disciplines are taken to their absolute limit.
GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND IT.
That is a fucking cool culmination to the week.

blanco bungalow is A private, gated estate on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, surrounded by protected nature and complete peace and quiet.

At the heart of it all is the Poolhouse: a huge communal space with a cozy fireplace + extra large sofa for post-surf analysis and hanging out between sessions. pool table, poker table, indoor-outdoor kitchen and long table for dinners & wine.
For six days, the whole place is yours.

Blanco Bungalow’s outdoor eco spa has a wood-fired sauna overlooking the gardens and ocean cliffs, a cedar cold plunge and a wood-fired soaking tub—all surrounded by nature.
Add the huge saltwater pool, mobility, breathwork and apnea, and you have everything you need to reset between sessions.

Surf Somm is as much about experiencing Portugal through its food and wine as it is through its waves.
Start the day with a healthy breakfast built for a full day in the water.
By day, we’ll take you to Bourdain-worthy lunch spots, tiny local restaurants, fresh fish off the grill, daily specials where you´ll get a real taste of Portugal and local life.
At night, we take it to another level with chef-prepared dinners. Fresh Atlantic seafood, local meats and seasonal produce, cooked over fire and served around the table.
Natural and biodynamic wines from some of our favourite Portuguese producers are hand-selected and paired throughout the week.

Surf Somm Series is built for experienced surfers, not beginners. You should be able to paddle out independently, navigate a lineup, catch unbroken waves consistently and feel comfortable surfing around head-high conditions. You don’t need to rip—you do need to surf

Yes. Bring the boards you actually want to surf. We recommend traveling with a small quiver suited to a range of Portuguese conditions: short board, step up & a twin fin or groveler. Rentals can also be arranged, but we recommend bringing your own boards.

We move. The Atlantic gets the final say. Our route is built around Ericeira, Santa Cruz, Peniche and Nazaré, but the actual breaks and timing are determined by conditions. That flexibility is part of surfing Portugal.

Not at all. Wine is a big part of Surf Sommelier, but drinking isn't required. The food, wine producers and culture are just as much a part of the experience. If you don´t drink, the price remains the same.

Our final day takes us to Praia do Norte for a jet-ski experience and an inside look at the environment, preparation and ocean knowledge behind big-wave surfing. You are not coming to surf giant Nazaré. You're coming to understand what it takes to surf it and have a front row seat to the action from a jet ski.

Guests will each have their own private room at The Blanco Bungalow. If you are coming with a friend and would like to share a house, please message us after booking, and we will do our best to accommodate.

Because of the limited group size and advance commitments involved, payments are non-refundable if you cancel. Comprehensive travel insurance is required and should include surfing, emergency medical care, trip cancellation/interruption and other unforeseen circumstances.
THE FINE PRINT
Airfare to and from lisbon, Portugal is not included.
All participants are required to obtain comprehensive travel insurance before arrival, including coverage appropriate for surfing and the other activities they intend to participate in, emergency medical treatment, evacuation and repatriation. Trip cancellation and interruption coverage is strongly recommended. Proof of required coverage will be requested before participation.
this experience takes place in an active ocean environment. Surfing, apnea and breath-hold activities, open-water activities, jet-ski activities, sauna, cold-water immersion and other physical activities involve inherent risks, including serious injury or death. Participants are responsible for honestly assessing their swimming ability, surfing experience, fitness, medical condition and personal limits.
Participation in any activity is always voluntary. Conditions, surf locations, instructors, activities, meals and the itinerary may be changed, substituted or cancelled when required by weather, ocean conditions, safety considerations, availability or circumstances outside our reasonable control. Specific waves, surf conditions and wave sizes are never guaranteed.
Nazaré is an observational and educational big-wave experience. Participation in Surf Somm does not include surfing giant waves at Praia do Norte.
Before participating, each guest will be required to review and sign the applicable Participant Agreement, Assumption of Risk and Release and provide any required insurance information.
